Quid pro Quo
A film by Monique Lesterhuis and Suzanne Raes
In the current tit-for-tat climate, society does not give you hand-outs. If you want unemployment benefits, you have to do your share. Rotterdam Council has long had a compulsory quid pro quo regulation and is known for being one of the strictest councils in the Netherlands. Everyone, regardless of education or age, has to work for their benefits, even if that means picking up litter.
The documentary Quid Pro Quo (De Tegenprestatie) literally joins the Centre for Work and Income in Rotterdam at the table and investigates this culture shift.
The material in Quid Pro Quo, as well as a number of additional interviews, has been used to create an e-learning project that will be used by Divosa to train their employees.
Premiered 15 October 2015 in Arminius, Rotterdam, followed by a debate with Secretary of State Jetta Kleinsma, councillor Maarten Struijvenberg and journalist Rutger Bregman.
